As a parent, you play a key role in the success of your student. As a parent myself, I know that you entrust your child(ren) to us each and every day. With your support, we can foster a love of learning and a path of success for each and every child. In addition to working with your children at home, we invite you to also become involved by volunteering in classrooms, serving as room parents, PTA or committee officers, tutors, or assisting with a variety of programs that occur throughout the school year. Our standard of excellence is very high as our students consistently stand toe-to-toe with the very best in the state. This success is due to teamwork and an absolute commitment by the parents, the students, and the educators to settle for nothing less than the very best. It is the Comet Way!

Mike Sloop - Principal
Welcome, Comets, to an exciting new school year! I am thrilled to be your Principal at Silver City Elementary School and work in this incredibly supportive community!
I am currently in my 22nd year of education. Previously, I served as an Assistant Principal at Big Creek Elementary School, Little Mill Middle School, and DeSana Middle School! Prior to becoming an administrator, I was a middle school science teacher and an instructional technology specialist (ITS) at Otwell Middle School. While at Otwell, I was named Forsyth County’s Teacher of the Year in 2006.
Throughout my career, I have been committed to doing whatever it takes to help children love their learning experience, be nurtured and challenged, and succeed in reaching their greatest goals. As an administrator, I seek to serve students and parents with selflessness and compassion and I strive to help my teachers and staff see the best in themselves and reach their highest potential. As Comets, we truly see our role as partners with you to give your children experiences and opportunities that will “ignite (their) minds for a brighter tomorrow!”
On a personal note, I graduated with High Honors from Georgia Tech as an industrial engineer and received my Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from N.C. State in Raleigh, NC. After being an environmental engineer with a national consulting firm in Atlanta for six years, I decided to make a career change in 2001. I attended North Georgia College and State University and earned my teaching certificate and then returned a few years later to earn my Leadership Specialist degree.
My amazing wife, Sarah, and I have been married for 15 years and we have three children—Brady (13) Logan (11), and Allie (9). We are incredibly grateful to be part of the Forsyth County Schools community and the Comet family!
Shelley McCannon - Assistant Principal
I couldn't be more excited to be part of the Silver City Administration Team as an Assistant Principal! I earned my bachelor's degree in Child and Family Development from the University of Georgia. Then I received my Master of Arts in Teaching, Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction, and Leadership degrees from Piedmont College. In addition, I have endorsements in Gifted and Special Education. I taught for numerous years in Clarke County Schools in various grades before finding my home in Forsyth County Schools in 2012. I have also served as a Literacy Coach and Instructional Coach.
I have been happily married for the past 24 years and have two amazing children currently attending college. My son, Spenser, plays soccer at Birmingham Southern College and my daughter, Ainsley, dances at Samford University. We have three adorable Yorkies and a largely lovable English Bulldog named Poundcake. In our free time, we love cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs, cuddling with our pups, and going to visit our children at college. I look forward to my seventh year as a Silver City Comet and further connecting and supporting our students and their families!
Maleah Dickman - Assistant Principal
I am proud to continue my journey at Silver City as an Assistant Principal! I earned my bachelor's degree in Early Childhood and Special Education from University of North Georgia in 2012. Then I received my Master of Education, Specialist in Curriculum and Instruction, and Leadership degrees from Piedmont College. In addition, I have an endorsement in reading. My story is unique in that I began my career at Silver City as a brand-new teacher. Over the past 11 years, I have served in many capacities at Silver City before becoming the Assistant Principal. I have grown to love everything our school has to offer.
I am married to my high school sweetheart, Erick. We have two children, Maddox (9) and Callen (4). We also have 2 fur babies, Kingston and Sampson. Our family enjoys spending time together outside and traveling. Living in this community and parenting young children has brought me a perspective that I believe serves me well in this role. I am excited to continue this journey and further connect with our students and their families.
